Born on 5th June 1967 in Bensberg near Cologne, he learned to play the piano, saxophone and percussion
and to use the synthesiser for composing at the age of 5.
1980 ‘Sternklang’ (Star Sound) and his first concert appearance, together with his father,
the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen
1981 ‘Donnerstag aus Licht’ (Tuesday made of Light) at the Opera in Milan, likewise with his father
1986 ‘A’ levels and concert appearances with his father throughout the world
1992/94 together with Karlheinz Stockhausen he produced electronic music for two operas from the LIGHT cycle, before finishing working with his father in 1996
Since 1982 co-operation with his brother Markus in various ensembles (KAIROS / APARIS / POSSIBLE WORLDS); many CDs under labels like EMI; ECM, LARGO; music for drama and films as well as two
commissions from the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne

‘JUBILEE’ 1996, ‘Inner Circles’ 1997, for the Biennial in Venice (1993) and the IMD / Darmstadt ‘Brandnächte’ (Fiery Nights) 1996.
1998-2005 compositions and arrangements of music for dramas, including some for the Berliner Ensemble ‘Leben will ich...’ (Life appeals...), the Schauspielhaus Dortmund ‘Mr Mazel’, the Staatstheater Mainz ‘KRONOS – KAIROS’ a musical recital with Hannah Schygulla, Manos Tsangaria, M. Stockhausen), the Schauspiel Frankfurt ‘Die Frauenfalle’ (The Women’s Trap) by Praetorius and for the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus ‘The Seagull’ by Chekhov (2001) as well as ‘Wir schlafen nicht’ (We aren’t asleep) by Kathleeen Röggla and ‘The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ by Tennessee Williams, directed by Burkhard Kominski (2004), and work together with the directors Peter Palitzsch and Ari Zinger.
1999 founding of the group MIR with Manos Tsangaria (CD release on Academy Label / Edel Records)
and repeated engagement in Tsangaris’ music dramas as an interpreter and sound designer
Keyboard player/live electronics manipulator and soprano saxophonist in various formations like the WDR Big Band, Lalo Shifrin (Esperanto), James Morrison (On the Edge), Vince Mendoza, Peter Erskine, Michael Riessler, Peter Eötvös (in ‘ATLANTIS’), since 2002/3 also with the Sharoun Ensemble, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Heiner Goebbels (Tagebuch UA / Surrogate Cities / Ou bien Sunyata UA).
Many years of working together with the singer Maria Husman, the English composer Benedict Mason, the maker of short films Kirsten Winter, the Israeli film director Amos Gitai as well as many compositions of chamber music for various ensembles, lyrics set to music, workshops for producing electronic sounds (including some with the educational department of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and also sound installations and performance-like meetings with visual artists, most recently with Lucy & Jorge Orta (OPERA:tion Life Nexus 2002)
and Misha Bolouri in the action 1.000.000 Lichterstadt Berlin (Berlin, City of 1,000,000 Lights, 2004).
Since 2003 the composition of music for many documentary films (WDR/Arte/ZDP), including ‘Alfredo and his Model’ by Angi Welz-Rommel, produced by TAGTRAUM (music by Simon Stockhausen) for ZDF/Arte.
In 2004 the production of the CD ‘nonDUALITY’ by Simon & Markus Stockhausen as well as of the CD ‘ROYCE’ 11 pieces by Walter Quintus and Simon Stockhausen mingled.
